Materials
- 1 styrofoam cone - 6" tall, 3" diameter
- 2 styrofoam balls - 3" diameter
- 1 smaller styrofoam ball - 2" diameter
- 1 styrofoam heart - approx. 5 1/2" tall, 6" wide at widest point
- sheet moss - one 4-oz. bag
- twig or dowel
- small flowerpot
- 6 toothpicks
- floral pins (optional)
Note that you may scale up or down; just be sure that the diameter of the 2 larger styrofoam balls matches the diameter of the cone so the project will fit together correctly.
Equipment
- Glue gun and glue sticks
I highly recommend using low-temp glue so you don't burn your fingers when applying the sheet moss! Also, I found a palm-triggered glue gun to be much easier to use than one with the regular trigger, since you are pressing with the heel of your hand rather than your index finger.
Also, make sure you have lots of glue sticks! I got very frustrated when I ran out in the middle... :-)
- Foam cutter or serrated knife
If you haven't seen a foam cutter, it's just a little battery-operated device that heats up a piece of wire which slices through the foam like butter. A serrated knife should work fine, but I recommend the foam cutter if you plan on doing many projects with styrofoam (like my life-size tombstones for Halloween).
